Down Payment Assistance

The Regional Home Ownership Center helps low to moderate income individuals and families purchase their first home using special low interest financing and down payment assistance (0% deferred as long as the property is the borrower's primary residence). In 1997, PHA became the Regional Administrator of this fund in partnership with the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) and the Department of Housing and Community Development. The first time home buyer program has income limitations where buyers income cannot exceed 80% of the area median income (AMI) as defined by HUD. In addition the buyer would have to complete a HUD-certified Homebuyer Education Course through VHDA or NeighborWords certified course.
